What will I do with my education?

Graduates of Heald's Fiber Optics program take rewarding positions, such as Fiber Optic Test and Measurement Technician, Fiber Optic Cable Technician, Fiber Optic Installation Technician, and Fiber Optic Connector Splicing Technician. As a specialist in this field, you will assist optical engineers and systems engineers in their work with optical systems.

Your duties will include optical system assembly and equipment and supply maintenance. You will engage in cable end preparation, connector installation, cable pulling and installation, and splicing and testing. You might also be responsible for optical loss testing and troubleshooting, or fusion splicing and connectorization. What's more, this program provides a solid foundation for you, should you decide to pursue certification as a Certified Fiber Optic Technician (CFOT).
